Spotlight on MediGreen: Building a Human-Centered Model in a Regulated World
By Angelica Rostov & Sharon Miller, Co-Founders of MediGreen
Modern healthcare is evolving beyond one-size-fits-all solutions. Yet leading this shift, particularly within a highly regulated environment, requires not only clinical expertise, but courage, adaptability, and a deep commitment to patient-centred care.
At MediGreen, this belief has shaped our journey from the very beginning.
Founded in 2020, MediGreen was established as an alternative, plant-based medical clinic and pharmacy with a clear vision: to create a more personalised and compassionate approach to healthcare. We recognised early that no single modality—whether conventional pharmaceuticals or complementary therapies—can fully address the complexity of individual health needs.
Instead, we saw an opportunity to build something different. A model grounded in integration, where evidence-based natural therapies sit alongside traditional care, and where the individual – not the system – is placed at the centre of decision-making.
Navigating Innovation Within Regulation
Bringing this vision to life required stepping into a new scope of practice within a tightly regulated healthcare landscape. As pharmacists, we were entering an emerging field that demanded more than clinical knowledge. It required a deep and ongoing understanding of evolving legislation, prescribing frameworks, and compliance requirements.
One of the most significant challenges was balancing innovation with regulation.
In highly governed industries, innovation cannot exist in isolation. It must be carefully designed to operate within established frameworks while still advancing new ways of thinking. For us, this meant investing in continuous education, developing robust internal processes, and maintaining meticulous attention to compliance, without compromising accessibility or patient experience.
This balance remains central to how we operate today.
Building Trust in Emerging Fields
Alongside regulatory complexity came another critical challenge: trust.
While plant-based and integrative therapies are gaining broader acceptance, they are still often accompanied by misconceptions. We quickly recognised that education would be essential—not only for patients, but also for the wider medical community.
Trust is not built through positioning alone. It is built through transparency, evidence, and consistency.
By taking the time to provide clear, evidence-based information, address concerns, and support informed decision-making, we have been able to foster strong relationships with both patients and referring practitioners. In doing so, we have helped contribute to a more informed and open dialogue around alternative approaches to care.
Expanding the Role of the Modern Practitioner
Our journey has also required us to rethink the traditional boundaries of pharmacy.
Stepping beyond established roles is rarely straightforward. It demands resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to lead change, often without a clear precedent. Yet it is precisely in these spaces that new opportunities emerge.
By embracing both our clinical training and an openness to innovation, we have created a model where pharmacists play a central and evolving role in patient care, supporting not only treatment pathways, but also education, integration, and long-term wellbeing.
This evolution reflects a broader shift across many professions: the need to expand beyond defined roles and respond to changing societal and industry needs with agility and purpose.
Growth Through Integration and Innovation
Following the success of our original Bentleigh clinic, we expanded to a second location in Carnegie, broadening our service offering while remaining true to our holistic, patient-centred philosophy.
Today, our approach integrates medical, wellness, and aesthetic services to support both physical health and overall wellbeing. From advanced non-surgical treatments to personalised skincare, professional-grade supplementation, and emerging technologies that support relaxation and physiological regulation, our focus remains consistent: delivering tailored, effective care that aligns with each individual.
Importantly, this growth has not been about diversification for its own sake. It has been about thoughtful integration, ensuring that every service we introduce contributes meaningfully to patient outcomes and experience.
The Future of Personalised, Integrative Care
Healthcare is at a pivotal moment.
Across industries, we are seeing a move toward personalisation, prevention, and whole-of-person thinking. In healthcare, this shift is particularly profound. Patients are seeking not only treatment, but understanding, partnership, and solutions that reflect their unique circumstances.
For leaders operating in any sector, there are valuable parallels.
Innovation must be balanced with responsibility. Trust must be actively built. And meaningful progress often requires stepping beyond traditional boundaries to create new models that better serve the people at the centre of our work.
At MediGreen, we believe the future of healthcare lies in integrative, person-centred approaches that honour both science and individuality. This is not simply a trend; it is a necessary evolution.
And for those willing to lead it, it offers the opportunity to create lasting impact.
