Business Women Australia has announced that Shadforth Financial Group has signed on as their FIRST NATIONAL partner to build the financial literacy, business skills and influential networks of businesswomen across the nation.
Business Women Australia National Partnerships Director, Lyn Hawkins said “We are delighted to partner with Shadforth Financial Group as they share our commitment to help women build their financial literacy. Studies continue to show that many women lack confidence and knowledge around financial decision making, yet it is vital that women get on top of this. It’s important that women don’t outsource their wealth management to others without fully understanding the details and making informed decisions. The federal government’s National Financial Literacy Strategy is a start, but all women must take responsibility for their finances for their long term economic well-being. Business women are the ones who need to step up first and take charge. They can then influence other women in their local and social communities to do the same.”
Business Women Australia’s research undertaken by Core Data identified that many women are not fully focused on their income growth and generally work “for the love it” (1). Women experience higher levels of stress and 80% focus on short time financial priorities to provide for their family’s day to day needs (2). While there is greater equality between the sexes than ever before, women’s average salaries are still 17.3% lower than those of men doing the same job. (3) The need for women to learn how to establish long term financial security, grow wealth and protect it is obvious.
Only 10% of Australian women retire with enough savings to fund a comfortable lifestyle (3) and there is an alarming growth of women in their middle ages finding themselves without a partner, without an income and even without a home. Superannuation for women is far less than men due to the time they take out of the workforce to care for family members, or because they are self-employed or have lower paid work (4).
“We are looking forward to partnering with Business Women Australia to help empower their members to take control of their financial future and success. At Shadforth Financial Group one of our many roles is as an educator, to help build our clients’ financial knowledge, as well as being a guide and coach on their journey to financial security. This is even more important for women as gender has a significant impact on the achievement of wealth and financial security,” said Terry Dillon, acting CEO Shadforth Financial Group.
“By working with Shadforth we raise awareness about the importance of financial advice and can add these important topics to our professional development program. We currently have a good focus on business growth strategies, team management and leadership, however supporting business women with holistic strategies to help close the ‘knowledge gap’ that leads to financial independence and superannuation growth is the key,” said Lyn Hawkins. “We are excited to be announcing the calendar of events today and invite business women to join us in this journey.”
