According to the Australian Government’s financial literacy foundation, women are both more likely to create day-to-day budgets, and, more likely to save their money, than their male counterparts. Women also manage their credit and debt more carefully, with 84% of women making repayments larger than their minimum repayments, whilst still building rainy day funds.

However, when it comes to investing, managing and protecting that wealth, women are falling short. Almost 1 in 5 women are uncomfortable with their levels of debt and one third of Australian women feel that they don’t have enough money for retirement. Australian women are looking to improve their financial literacy, and while only 1 in 3 women will look at both return and risk on their investments, 68% of women are interested in learning more.

But financial literacy isn’t just an issue for women, this impacts families and communities and indeed has an impact on all of us no matter what our role. The notion of “financial wellbeing” is increasingly becoming a subject of regular discussion amongst employers who all too often see the effects of low financial literacy on productivity and profits.

What can they do to support and encourage their employees to become more financially confident?

Why does it matter?

Kathryn Dixon, Relationship Manager, IOOF Employee Solutions will unpack the concept of financial wellbeing and the importance of this for us both as individuals and as executives, professionals & business owners illustrating this with some real-life examples.
